Heath Herring to take time off from the UFC

In a new interview with MMAWeekly.com, UFC heavyweight fighter Heath Herring has declared his intentions of taking some time off from fighting in order to spend some time with his family:

Heath Herring will be taking some much needed time off and will be looking for a new training camp, as he stated in an interview with MMAWeeekly Radio recently.Going into his third match-up with former Pride heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Noguiera, Herring said he felt more ready and more confident than he had in any previous fight with the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. Despite a first round that saw Herring almost finish Noguiera, the remainder of the bout did not go his way and he lost a three-round unanimous decision.Having already fought three times in the first seven months of 2007, Herring will take some time off to spend with his family while he also searches for a new training camp.“The UFC already called me about maybe [fighting] in October, and I just need to take some personal time,” said Herring. “I’m just trying to catch up and do some family things right now, and I need to find a good fight camp so I’ve got nothing really scheduled right now.”The fight with Nogueira still lingers strong in Herring’s mind and he wants to make sure the timing is right for his return.“After that last one (versus Nogueira) that was kind of a disappointing one, so its going to take a little bit of time, reevaluate some things and see how things go,” said Herring. Since the fight at UFC 73, Herring took time to visit the U.S. troops in Afghanistan for two weeks and is now focused on family matters.“I haven’t had a chance to sit down and be really critical of that fight just in my own mind,” said Herring about the fight with Nogueira. “I know there are things that could have been done differently, but I’ve just been spending as much time with my family as I can right now, especially since I’ve been in Afghanistan for the last two weeks.”The UFC heavyweight division has been growing by leaps and bounds over the last few months and Herring’s eventual return will only help to bolster an already impressive weight class.
